Polycythemia
Definition:it is increase in RBC count
Type:
1.Primary polycythemia : (polycythemia vera)
-tumor in bone marrow that cause uncontrolled synthesis of erythropoietin
-RBCs count may reach 11 million cells\mm3
2.Secondary polycythrmia : (physiological polycythemia)
-it is mechanism to improve blood supply for the:-
a)person living in high altitude
b)person with chronic lung disease
c) person with cardiac failure
(RBCs count about 6-8 million\mm3)
cronology effect of polycythemia
1.increase RBCs number
2.increase blood viscosity
3.sluggish blood flow
4.increase work load on the heart
5.increase peripheral resistance
6.increase blood pressure
